FS Out of print kits
I just received this "Out of Production" kit from Estes. It even comes with a snazzy bag!

Yeah, Estes only made 300 and sold out in about 3 hours. If they make that mistake with the Great Goblin, I'm going to be pissed. And for those of you not in the loop, I believe in June, they are coming out with a 3" diameter Goblin kit, which is going to be awesome. I have already been saving my pennies for that, but if they sell out, well then I'm just going to have to buy the LOC 4" Goblin instead.

Apparently, somebody got wind of the Blue Sapphire and sent emails out about it. That was the instant end of the sale.
Estes sent notice about them about a week prior to them going on sale. I am on their "Frequent Loser" club mailing list. I think they may have even gone up for sale the day before being available to everyone not on their list. Whatever.
I bought 2. One to build, and one to sell to Joe Z in a few years for about $200. 🤣
FWIW, they aren't that special, besides the anniversary logo and the cheapo bag. The rocket is on the small side (anything more than an A and you may never see it again), and the fins are thin balsa, so they should last a long time(<sarcasm). Even the Nose Cone is balsa (strange for Estes these days), which I find a pain to finish smoothly, and dents easily. If they really wanted a "special" rocket, it should have been at least twice the size, 24mm engine mount, and a plastic, blue nose cone and fin can. I know that's all less "craftsmanship" by the flier, but it looks better and is more durable.
I won't be building it any time soon. I have lots of repairs on my list to do for the time being. Been pretty busy lately too, so my progress on those is slow.

The snazzy bag was "free" 😏 (I didn't even know they came with them).
The rockets were listed at $22, or about $29.305 each (including tax and shipping). It's a good $12 rocket kit. 🤔
They also ran some sort of random Easter egg hunt that I got an email about. Every order got a chance to win something. I ordered these things, but saw absolutely nothing about the egg hunt on the website or anywhere after that. So I guess I lost.

That's insane. Priced at $22. Two are now on eBay. One had a starting bid of $100 and has one bidder. The other started at $65 and has had 13 bidders driving the price to over $115! It's not that great a rocket and $100+ for paper and balsa???

That is completely and totally and absolutely insane!!! It goes to show you that P.T. Barnum greatly underestimated. WAY more than one born every minute!🥴
I'll sell you mine for $150 each, and throw in the snazzy bag for free! BUT, if you take me up on it I will immediately resign my position and quit the Club. Because that would show how mentally unstable you are and I don't want to be around such people with black powder at their disposal. 🤨

For the 60th, they issued an Alpha (Red chrome fincan and nosecone) with a 60th Anniversary decal. They didn't charge much nor did they, IIRC, limit the production quantity. I'm certainly not concerned about the 65th.
Perhaps, for the 75th, they can create 75 platinum coated Alphas which can all be purchased by a single individual to scalp on eBay for 75 times the original price. 🤔🤪
Besides, I have one of the 100 Miss Rileys produced. I have #12. The certificate is signed by Homer Hickam which is far cooler than a plastic bag. The first ten were purchased by one individual; so after that I was the third sale. I have never seen that ten being resold. My guess is that whomever got them has to be holding onto them to increase their value.
A red chromed out Alpha actually sounds pretty cool.
For the 75th "Diamond Jubilee" Estes should make diamond nose cones with platinum body and fin can. The NC can actually be clear plastic, but with a diamond faceted surface. And it should be much larger. 24mm motor at least. I might be dead by then, so Evan can look forward to it.
I can't sell this or advertise it, but perhaps I can scan the decals and fin sheet, then get the NC and body specs and pass them on to the Club so we can all make our own knock off versions. (Then I can sell the original kit to Joe)
And yes - your Miss Riley is WAY better than this thing.
