Monmouth Scout Pack 22 Launch
Quote from Admin on March 5, 2024, 8:21 pmCENJARS has been asked to help out with the Monmouth Scout Pack 22 launch on May 11. I'm assuming it will be held at Dorbrook Park same as last year's launch. We had a fun day with that pack. If you can help out, it'd be appreciated and you'll have fun too.

Quote from Eric Becher on March 5, 2024, 8:38 pmThat was a good day last year. Scout leaders were well prepared as I recall. Nice field too.
It's on my calendar. (I don't have a haircut scheduled that day).

Last year's event with them was fun. This year's is scheduled for roughly the same weekend (give a day for the calendar shift and another for leap year this year). I hope the weather is good that day.
Last year's event was just before Franz and I had our hernia repair operations. I don't know how Franz felt that day but I was in some serious pain that day. Hopefully, my new situation will see me in the operating room long before this event.

Quote from Admin on April 8, 2024, 5:34 pmI just received an email WRT to this launch
Hi Brian,
The park system will need a roster of who will be launching the rockets the
day of the event. If you would provide me with the names of the members
who will be handling the launches, that would be greatly appreciated!Thank you for your time! Looking forward to launch day,
Jennifer Golden
Whomever plans to be there, let me see a show of hands. I don't believe this means that you absolutely need to attend. For some reason, Dorbrook wants the names of out club member that will be there.

I'm guessing that they are looking for names for liability concerns. I'll provide her with our insurance certificate and the usual names: You, me, Charlie, Franz, Ken.

Quote from Eric Becher on May 7, 2024, 12:12 pmSo minor complication for me. If the weather holds, and there is no interference from the "Old Kahuna" I hope to be at BARC down in South Jersey flying for my L2.
That's a shame as I do enjoy launching with the scout kids. They are always enthusiastic and it's a fun couple of hours. But they do keep us a little busy. Last year we found Dorbrook Park to be a pretty good place to launch and "demonstrated" a few of our own rockets for the kids. (Just for their sake of course. Not 'cause we wanted to fly anything too.😁) So even though they had great scout leaders that were involved, they could use a hand or two if anyone is available to help out. I'm sure Charlie and whoever else shows up would appreciate it.
If you've never done one of these, this is a good one. Aside from setup/breakdown, all you have to do is keep the kids from getting too close to the launch pads ("back, back, back"), help them load and prep their rockets, and set them up on the rods, and someone will have to push the buttons. It's not hard, doesn't take a "rocket surgeon", is fun meeting the kids, and as I said, you might be able to get a couple of your own flights in to boot.
