This turned out to be a really great day to fly! Temps in the 60’s, a bit of sunshine, and the winds even died out by mid-afternoon.
Engine totals:
1 – 1/2A Engines
3 – A Engines
8 – B Engines
9 – C Engines
4 – D Engines
15 – E Engines
29 – F Engines
2 – G Engines
Total of 71 engines on 71 flights.
So the ARC teams came out in force and did a lot of flying. At times the waiting list for rails was 3 deep, but we managed to get everyone in the air, staying on the field until 5:30. You’ll notice the large number of F and E flights. Out of those 44 flights, 38 were for ARC teams. Many were for qualification flights, and some teams did quite well. Some of us noticed that the teams have been learning and there were few failed flights or questionable construction issues as compared to early in the season. That progress is always good to see. We’re hopeful that some may be going to the finals in Virginia, but we’ll have to be patient a little longer to find out.
But don’t think this launch was just for ARC teams. Plenty of non-ARC folks were there too, young, old (I mean “experienced”), and in-between. On G motors, Eric flew his “King Kracken”, and Christian flew his “Goblin”. At the other end of the spectrum was Bill’s “Mini Sputnik”. And there were plenty of others too. A couple of patriotic red, white, and blue rockets flew. Joe flew his reassembled “Nell”, but I don’t think there will be another reassembly.
Lots of pics are in the Gallery. Joe has at least one video up already, but there is promise of more to come. (look for the orange frame around the pictures)
Next weekend is the last shot for ARC qualifying flight. Weather cooperating, we’ll be there again on Sunday the 29th. But once again, all are welcome to come fly what ya got!
As a heads up, the April launch is looking like it will be on the 12th, to allow families to have Easter Sunday somewhere else besides a field. Stay tuned for that confirmation.
See you again next week, weather permitting.
