Launch Lug mods
I am building the Mayhem from Estes. A couple of mods are complete and a few may be designed. Tonight I am looking at the 3/16" lugs that come with the kit.
The rocket is 2 stage with 24mm motors. Just like the Sasha I flew Sunday. The Sasha came with 1/4" lugs , 1 on the booster and 2 on the sustainer. The Mayhem stock is 2 x 3/16 on the sustainer and non on the booster.

The question is naked booster any concerns? Definitely going to 1/4" lug on standoffs. How many I haven't planned.

"Naked" booster is fine, as long as you aren't planning to fly it by itself.😏
It is actually easier and I would recommend it since you don't have to worry about lining up the booster's lug with the sustainer's lug. Funny, I never noticed that about the Sasha. My question would be "why did they do that to the Sasha?" Possibly because the booster section is longer than others?? But it really doesn't look that long. Maybe because of the weight with E12's in it?
I would go with 2 on the sustainer, and not worry about it at all. The 1/4" upgrade is a good idea. I would even think about buttons, depending on where you will fly it and how you want it to look. Go to MDRA or somewhere else with a field large enough for it to stretch its legs, and they won't even put out the 1/4" rods.
I need 1/8" standoff. I am reluctant to us buttons. They would need to be surface mount because I already glued the sustainer motor mount in place. 🙁
It would work fine. Put some washers under it, and get a longer screw. Put some medium CA in the drilled hole and screw it in, leave it button down to dry so the CA stays around the screw. Should hold well enough.
Option two is to put on conformal rail guides, which are surface mount (glued on), and add the standoff under them.

Your best bet for these is to 3D print them when you need them.You can use your own 3D software to produce them or look on thingiverse.com for them. Look for Jack Hydrazine's contributions.
