Arbor school - outreach
Quote from Zielijo1 on November 27, 2022, 12:02 pmFYI, for some background on the arbor school. I volunteer at Mrs Aleda Gerum 4th grade class, at the arbor school in Piscataway If I contribute at least 5 hours, my work donates $250 to the school. The school has used the money for supplies, class trip to Sandy hook. I developed a STEM program, I have to teach math and science. I do this by testing them on math, converting feet to meters, or explaining the periodic table of elements. They are 10 yrs old and haven’t been exposed to this info. I try to wrap it around fun, and I work for a pharmaceutical company. The next step is linking it to model rocketry. This is actually easy, as a former chemical division, Ciba Geigy, developed the Apollo helmet visor block and an epoxy for heat shield… so now I speak about model rockets, have a build day, and then fly at the school
CENJARS supported this first launch back in April. I plan to repeat for 2023
The kids write me thank you notes. Some say they had fun and learned so much. Aleda is a friend, so I’m glad to do it

This is part of my volunteer day thru work. It’s part of STEM. There were 20 kids all trying to keep on the same step. My 2 proctors, Mrs Gerum ( her class) and John helped corral. The kids don’t use the instructions, prefer to listen to me. I did notice kids sharing glue, and helping their neighbor with certain steps. Some kids needed corrections but all should fly. The launch date is next month w #cenjars rocket club to help out
Thanks to #estesrockets for the kits.CENJARS launch date Apr 21- come out and help

Quote from Eric Becher on March 21, 2023, 11:21 pmEXACTLY! Retired people don't usually get dressed in real clothes before noon!
I don't drink coffee. (I do eat munchkins.)
Like I said, I wouldn't do it for just anyone.

Ditto on the coffee and munchkins. The big munchkins are acceptable as well.

Are you implying that if/when I retire I'll have to wear clothes before noon?

Quote from Eric Becher on March 22, 2023, 9:09 amNo, you don't have to wear clothes before noon. PJ's or robes, at most, are just fine. Just don't scare the neighbor's children.
