2024 Launch Data Summary
Quote from Eric Becher on December 4, 2024, 5:07 pmBelow are graphs and data for motors and flights from 2024, and also Year on Year for comparison. Note that I have only been secretary since 2022 and I have no information from before then.
Note that the numbers from month to month are greatly weather dependent, and somewhat holiday dependent. In fact, December 2023 we couldn't actually get a launch in at all for both of those reasons. But there are trends that can be identified.
- There has been a steady increase in total flights. This can be attributed to increased membership and attendance (also steadily increasing). Paid memberships of all types rose from 32 in 2022 to 51 in 2024.
- More ARC (American Rocketry Challenge) teams have been flying with CENJARS. As I understand it, national participation in ARC in general has been increasing, and this region is not an exception. Also, word has spread that teams can come to CENJARS and we'll assist as much as we can (efforts led mostly by Charlie).
- Our outreach efforts have spread the word about CENJARS. These include visiting schools, and holding demonstration launches for Scouts and Wall township events. Sometimes we just demonstrate and educate, and sometimes we actively lead building and/or flying sessions. Individuals like you can also recruit new people to the hobby and we encourage all CENJARS members to do so. Friends and neighbors, kids and grandchildren are always welcome!
- There has been a steady increase in larger motors (E, F, G). Some of this is certainly due to increased ARC flying. But the higher E's & G's also point to something else. I believe as our members gain more experience and building/flying skills, they are more ambitious and enjoy pushing themselves to larger rockets and motors. Nothing wrong with that!
- This is not only reflected in the number of larger motors burned, but in people who also hold memberships with the NAR (National Association of Rocketry) or Tripoli, and in the number of members certified to levels 1, 2, or 3. Association memberships rose from 12 in 2022 to 25 in 2024. And those holding higher level certifications rose from 7 in 2022 to 14 in 2024. These are impressive numbers for our "little" group!
So that's my thoughts. Congrats on everyone for making these points possible. Does anyone else see other conclusions from the numbers? Let's keep things going, improving, and expanding. That is what keeps a club like ours active and vibrant. And don't worry, as attendance has been increasing, we are adding equipment and capacity to our inventory. You might have noticed new launch equipment of various types, new speakers, and soon we hope to see a new controller.
